Well it's 2021 and I'm still stuck at home. On March 8th my company sent me home to work due to COVID. It wasn't supposed to be for long, just a "few weeks" based on what was known at the time. It's now almost a year later and we are still here. I haven't had a lot of creative juices flowing recently and am trying to spark that fire and get it burning again. Some of my recent work is in the Night Photography gallery here on my site. Please stop by and take a look.
Over the summer I discovered a love for shooting the night sky. It has taken me to a few locations that sadly are not accessible until the coming Spring or maybe even early Summer. My favorite spot is at Picture Lake on Mt. Baker. It sits at almost 5000 feet so right now there's a LOT of snow up there. Second on the list is Washington Pass, HWY 20. Also closed for the season. It is a great spot if you like to shoot tail light trails as well. The east side of the pass is very open and you can see through the curves in the road as it goes down the hill. My third favorite spot is at the top of FS 24 between Darrington and Granite Falls, Washington on MTN Loop HWY. This road isn't for the faint of heart. At some points you are on a narrow one lane road on the top of a mountain with nothing but a long drop to the left and right of you. I was able to finally get to the end of the road in August. I tried in July and had to turn around at about 4000 feet as there was still so much snow on the road. This summer I plan to explore further south and check out the areas around Mt. Rainier National Park.
Around the holidays I was able to get a few paying shoots in. One of the nice things about where I live is that there are lots of open spaces. I was able to shoot outside and distanced. It's important for me to follow the guides set in place for COVID as I am at high risk because of my TID and other factors. Shooting primarily with my Sigma Sport 70-200 f2.8 made it easy to get nice and tight on the subjects and maintain that 6' rule of thumb. I want to thank my clients as well for respecting my needs and wearing masks when discussing the next poses.
That's about all I have for now. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to leave a comment about what you're interested in hearing about from me.
